Sunday Morning Schedule

Sunday Forum takes place from 9:50-10:50 am in the Shaw Room with coffee, tea, and a guest speaker who presents and then invites discussion on a topic such as spiritual authenticity, healing for our city, the challenges of peace in our world, climate change, journeys of grief, nonviolent communication, and positive parenting. These gatherings are free and open to the public.

11:00 am Worship in the Downtown Presbyterian Church sanctuary is centered in soul-stirring music, prayers of praise and hope, and innovative preaching that brings into dialogue the wisdom of scripture and the challenges we face in our lives and in our world. During the Children’s Time, our Co-Pastors sit on the chancel steps and really talk with our youngsters, who never fail to keep the pastors on their toes! Our Co-Pastors, Rev. Gordon Webster and Rev. Pat Youngdahl, now in their fourth year together as a spiritually grounded and dynamic leadership team, collaborate closely in planning worship with Lee Wright, our full time Director of Music Ministry, who conducts the Chancel Choir, Children’s Ensemble, and seasonal bell choirs.

At about 11:20, the children depart for Sunday School classes, led by our wonderful staff of creative, dedicated, caring volunteer teachers, who are in turn supported by Laura McKinstry, M.C.E., our full time Director of Christian Education. Laura McKinstry is also one of the amazing team of advisors for our junior high and senior high Youth Groups, which likewise meet on Sunday mornings (just call Laura at 325-4000 for more details).

At noon, everyone is invited to a Fellowship Time in the Hallock Lounge, where coffee, tea, and cookies are served.

At 12:15, one of our Co-Pastors teams up with musician Alan Jones to lead Seeker’s Circle, an opportunity for all who are interested to join in further conversation and music exploring the scripture texts of the day and get to know one another in a smaller setting.

Downtown Church is handicap accessible. It includes audio loops in the adult education room, the sanctuary and in Celebration Hall. The service in the sanctuary can be sign-language interpreted with notice.

Childcare for infants and toddlers is provided.
